Battle Report 40K Orks vs. Eldar

"Dere dey go agin!" exclaimed Gimbliptz as the image of the squad of eldritch warriors blinked out. "Peraps itza projection..."

But the silvery gobs the warriors had sprayed onto the panza were still slowly sliding down the sides.

"Boss! We're meltin!" shouted one of the boys. Sure enough, the gobs left little more than paint streaks in the spots from which they had slid. Consternation reigned aboard the panza as the tracks snarled in the stuff.

"Aw fer kryin out loud!" Gimbliptz complained when it became clear that all the new spiky bits on the hull had succumbed. "I jis nstalled dose last week!"

Exasperated into a rage, he waved his oversized weapon over his head. "Daz it! Enuf uv dose iffy gitz!" and he leaped over the side and bounded across where the gobs were still settling into the ground.

After a moment, the rest of the boys followed with a yell, skidding around the corner of the ruins from which their attackers had appeared. Moments later, screams rang out...

As soon as Banys and I saw the 800 point armies we had designed for this battle, we both knew what the conclusion was going to be. He assumed I wouldn't be able to mechanize at this level and went all out anti-infantry. In short, he assumed wrong.

We were playing for multiple objectives, marked by purple arrows. He placed his two as close to his starting edge as possible. I placed mine in open spaces where my assaults could take place.

Picture is not quite accurate. I had standard troop "sluggaboyz" instead of elite "skarboyz."

Not seeing any threats, I gave Banys first move. To my surprise, his Dark Reapers didn't have enough punch to get through the side armor on my battlewagon.

Ork Turn 1: Reapers go "poof"

Then I opened up with a big bang. The Leman Russ hit for the first time in three games and wiped out the entire Dark Reaper squad with a single shot.

Not seeing any point to stepping out of their invulnerable positions, the boyz stayed on board their transports, rolled up to the enemy positions, and took pot shots with sluggas.

Then the Eldar warpspiders materialized on my flank and hit the battlewagon with monofilament webs, warping back behind the ruins where I couldn't shoot them. Not wanting to wait for the vehicle to die a slow death by webbing, and realizing that I could engage the warpspiders out of range of the Guardians, I sent my sluggaboyz charging in!

The assault was too much of a success. The remaining warpspider fled, leaving the boyz unengaged and vulnerable to fire. I was glad Banys' Guardians were too far in the ruins to spot my mob.

Speaking of which, my tankbustas crossed the field in order to finish the job the sluggas had started. This left the tank alone on my right.

No matter--it could be harmed by neither shots nor assault. Initially, I was going to use it to simply block the Guardians from exiting the rocks they passed through, but then decided to back up and try to drop a shell on them (without scattering it onto myself!). My initial plan was probably the better one.

The slugga boyz were able to assault their way all the way back to the other side of the ruins, wiping out the remnants of Banys' right flank.

Faced with the impossibility of charging back across open terrain to contend with the other group of Guardians, I simply spread them out in such a fashion as to control three objectives and obtain shots with the longer range weapons, all the while retaining cover save from the ruins--the advantage of fielding a large mob!

At this point, the tankbusta's trukk expired under a hail of shuriken rifle fire, and they were obliged to evacuate the vehicle.

This brought us to the end of the game. Banys flew his Farseer over to swipe an objective, and at just this moment the Leman Russ quit and would not move to contend it. Final score was a rout: 2100 to 200. Only 30 points of Banys' 200 came "naturally:" only the trukk and four boyz had been eliminated from my forces.
