Used the technique I developed with the prototype shown to the right here for comparison:
On left is a model also bought off ebay but painted through base coat stage.
Don't know when I painted 30 models in less than two weeks. Took a few evenings, even with skipping primer. Typically took 90 minutes per color. As I recall, the colors were:
Thick black to guns, hats
Off white drybrush
Light green drybrush on skin
Green glaze on skin
Dirty greenish glaze on clothes
Brown glaze on leather
RGB glaze on boots
Bronze metal accents
Silver drybrush on guns
Black tinted gloss varnish on hats
Tit white on ear flaps
Dark green basecoat on bases
Black wash
Flocking
Close look at prototype in comparison (left)
The innovations that seem to have helped:
Secondary metal color
Base paint color under flocking
Black wash (vs way thinned out airbrush paint)
The heavier glaze has not been such a success. If I remember after all these years ('93?), the proto was glazed with straight transparent airbrush ink.
The move to multiple drybrush "priming" has not seemed to help here. With other models, a single foundational color makes the figure look drab. It may be this is particularly true for metal, for which this technique must be on a primed surface and is not nearly as effective.
Some closeups:
I have to say, my five-year-old daughter is particularly appreciative of the lit'l colored booties these grot wear to battle...

Nice work here! You definitely take more time & effort in your paint jobs than I do with my Eldar/LOTR. I definitely paint to a more pedestrian "tabletop" standard, where the model looks pretty good from 3 feet away, but close up, the detail (like you have viewing the cloth folds on the backs of the models with the colored booties) is nowhere near your quality.
It will be my pleasure to drop plasma templates on these as often as possible. :)
