Gondorian Thermopoli

Week 4, Thirmidge, 4000 TA

Eorlbert Captain of the Mark,

We heard of the sad lament raised at the falling of Lord Imarhil. Our men in the Crown Company began to wonder if the Valar had abandoned us to our fate. We assured them that what they needed to do was cry out to Illuvatar and hope for the best.

Last turn the enemy retreated before our shouts of battle and kazoo songs. This turn they attacked us in the valley. They marched in a company of the meanest Uruk-hai we have ever seen, and a company of Wargs. They expected to finish us off, but knew it would be a challenge because of the terrain.

Learning from our mistakes last time, we positioned ourselves atop a single rock. Hurin was still on a stretcher, though he is feeling better now. Anarion has now taken his place on the stretcher, but our patrons sent us a couple of extra of guys for our trouble. Our rangers, Rick and Rocky did what I can no longer do since my arm is missing (by the way, should the Valar give me a new special ability since missing in the ways while shooting no longer makes sense since I cannot shoot my bow). They began to fire at the approaching hoard. Turn after turn they killed the enemy. The enemy archers were practically useless. They did eventually wound Rocky (after he had scored four kills), but my use of myself as a shield helped keep Rick alive and forced the enemy to try to approach us up the rock. Ranger Rick killed 5 enemies himself. Including most of the enemy archers and spear men. We were out gunned 6 to 2 but we still held the lead in the archery battle. Our sharp shooting capabilities came in very helpful.

The monsters tried to climb up on our rock, but the Guard of the Fountain Court, nicknamed the 300 Guard, kept one Berserker from ever reaching the top of the rock. Another did wound Anarion, and made it atop the rock, but Therm and Op of the spear brigade surrounded and killed him. Eventually the enemy broke and began to run. We were all very thankful for the defensive value of the rock, each strike of the enemy had to test if it hit us or not, and each time they failed to kill us they risked falling off the cliff again.

Once the enemy broke we allowed them to retreat. We have survived to live another day. Perhaps the Gondorian State Department can work out a deal for us to have passage to Edoras. Until then, we will continue to fight without fear.

Your Armless Friend,

Mardil, Second Lieutenant of the Crown Company.
Lacho calad! Drego morn!
